On 21–24 April 2026 in Constanța, Romania, a four-day international training for youth educators, “Methodology of Intercultural Education in Working with Young Refugees”, took place. The mobility was hosted and organised by the Romanian project partner, ASOCIATIA NOVAPOLIS. The training brought together 9 participants — three each from Poland, Romania and Sweden — educators, teachers, pedagogues and representatives of organisations working with people with a migration background.
The main aim of the training was to present and test in practice one of the project’s intellectual outputs — the Toolkit. The sessions were based on interactive methods, workshop work with the authors of the Toolkit, discussions and feedback sessions. The programme comprised four thematic blocks:
- Day 1 — introduction to intercultural education: culture and cultural diversity, biases and stereotypes, models of intercultural competence development;
- Day 2 — refugees: definitions and rights, causes of displacement, the situation of Ukrainian refugees, methods of integration and inclusion (with a simulation game);
- Day 3 — intercultural communication: social norms, values and customs, community asset mapping, peer mentoring;
- Day 4 — working with refugees: integration programmes (educational, therapeutic and social support), designing and implementing activities based on the Toolkit, and building the Community of Practice and the sustainability of results.
All objectives of the training were achieved. Participants deepened their knowledge of the assets and difficulties of young people with a forced-migration background, their ability to identify these young people’s needs and to design the educational process in culturally diverse groups. They also prepared for the role of multipliers of knowledge and attitudes in intercultural education within their local communities.
